3 Reasons Why You Need a Password Manager

Being organized means being able find what you need when you need it.  Time spent searching for misplaced items or information is wasted time and usually contributes to stress, causes distraction and prevents you from staying on task.

How much time do you waste either looking for or trying to recall a login or password for a web site or app?

It’s still a waste of time if you’ve decided not even to try to recall your various passwords and instead request a reset each time you want to access your account.  You don’t have to waste this time.  It can be easier!

Password managers are applications that work as collection points for all of your online account credentials.

Here are 3 reasons why you should start using a password manager.

  1. Password managers support using unique and strong passwords for each of your accounts.  Strong passwords are a string of 8-12 characters, numbers and symbols.  The best passwords don’t make any kind of sense and are very difficult to memorize as a result.  Most people have at least 5 online accounts they access.  Few people are capable of remembering 1 or more strong passwords.  Password managers help generate strong and unique passwords for each of your accounts.
  2. Password managers are secure and alert you to change passwords.  Most password management services have good encryption, two-step authentication and backup strategies in place.  Some will cue you to regularly change your passwords and will often alert you when there has been a security breach to a site where you have an account.
  3. Password managers will save you time and increase your ability to stay on task by helping you log in faster.  Password managers along with browser add-ins work to streamline the process of storing new account data in the password manager and recalling it when you are logging into sites.

A recent poll found LastPass to be the gold standard of password managers today.  We’ve been using LastPass for several years and have valued improving the security of our passwords, easily accessing login information and receiving alerts when a security breach puts an account we own at risk.
