Don’t Write Off the Next 28 Days: Make December Your Month
Today is December 3, 2024, and there are exactly 28 days left in the year. That’s four full weeks, a complete lunar cycle, and an incredible opportunity to accomplish something meaningful. Yet, for many, December feels like a month to “write off.” With the holidays and year-end distractions, it’s easy to slip into the mindset that nothing significant can happen between now and January 1.
But let me challenge you to think differently: 28 days is a substantial amount of time. When used intentionally, it’s enough to make meaningful progress on a goal you’ve been putting off, set yourself up for success in the year ahead, or even redefine how you approach this holiday season.
28 Days: A Lunar Cycle and So Much More
Think about what can happen in just 28 days. The moon completes an entire cycle, shifting from a new moon to a full moon and back again. Nature doesn’t pause; it continues its rhythm, creating significant change within this timeframe.
Other transformations happen in 28 days:
- You could establish a habit or begin reshaping one (science suggests that habits often form in about 21–30 days).
- A workout routine can lead to measurable improvements in strength, endurance, or energy.
- You could complete a meaningful project, whether personal or professional. Many people have written entire drafts of books in a month-long sprint!
- Relationships can strengthen through consistent attention, whether with loved ones, clients, or yourself.
Now consider this: What could you accomplish if you devoted the next 28 days (four full weeks!) to focused effort?
Finish Strong: Accomplish a 2024 Goal
Many of us began 2024 with big goals. But life happens, and some goals may have been sidelined. That’s okay—because there’s still time to act. You may not complete a massive goal in 28 days, but with a plan and consistent effort, you could make significant progress.
Imagine stepping into January 2025 knowing that you didn’t just let the final month slip by. Instead, you took control and finished the year with purpose. Maybe you finally launched that side project, decluttered your home, built a daily meditation practice, or completed a certification.
Even if the goal isn’t entirely finished, 28 days of progress can give you momentum heading into the new year. Momentum is a powerful gift to yourself—it transforms “I’ll start later” into “I’m already on my way.”
Get a Head Start on 2025
Why wait until January 1 to begin something important? The calendar may change, but you can decide to start now. If you’ve been dreaming of something for 2025—whether it’s improving your health, growing your business, or learning a new skill—why not use December to take the first steps? Starting now puts you weeks ahead of the game, reducing the pressure of “New Year’s resolutions” and creating a smoother path forward.
Redefine December
The holiday season comes with expectations—yours, society’s, or others’. These can include stress, overspending, packed schedules, and endless to-do lists. But what if this December could be different?
Instead of letting the holidays dictate your time and energy, choose to be intentional. What kind of experience do you want this season? Peace? Health? Joy? Simplicity? Write it down, and then build a plan around it.
For example:
- If you want less stress, say no to commitments that don’t align with your priorities.
- If you want to feel healthier, make space for movement, rest, and nourishing meals—even amid celebrations.
- If you want less drama, establish boundaries and focus on meaningful connections.
By choosing an intentional approach, you not only reclaim December but set a tone for the year ahead.
