Essentialism – The Disciplined Pursuit of Less

Sometimes it is easy to confuse “busy” with “productive”, and “abundance” with “blessing”, particularly with our work. But abundance can be burdensome and cause overwhelm and stress; being too busy often causes distraction, lack of focus and decreased productivity.

More options and opportunities come through our inboxes each day (by “inbox” I mean all of the ways that information comes to us, whether that is through our email, traditional or social media, conversation, or any other way that news and ideas enter our awareness and pull at our attention) than we could ever possibly take action or follow up on. With all of the possibilities and requests that are continuously presenting themselves is often tempting to take on more than we can manage well. But since being pulled in too many directions and trying to do too many things leads to poor performance and stress, it is critical to be discerning, to know the difference between what is essential and what is not.

This month our blog posts are inspired by Greg McKeown’s best-selling book Essentialism – The Disciplined Pursuit of Less. Essentialism is about discerning which things are vital and which are just noise that we should tune out. It is about having the courage to say no to the noise, so you can focus on the things that really matter for you. We will share some of the key concepts from Essentialism and Minimalism that may help you gain more clarity about what is essential for your life, so that you can do more with less. Stay tuned to our blog to learn more.
