Get Organized for Back-to-School: Monday Mom’s Moment

Ease into fall with a back to school routine

School is back in session and with it comes the influx of papers, art and crafts into your home.  Children can bring home dozens of things each week.

Don’t get caught up in an overwhelming tide of paper!  Set up places to collect the things you need or want to save and routines for purging what you no longer need.

Collection points – These are places designed to capture and contain in-coming items.  Ideally they are placed near where children unpack bags or where you can easily access to put things away.

Consider having the following collection points in your home:

  • Inbox for things from school that need your attention: These are papers from school you need to sign or for your review.
  • Container for collecting items you want to keep as memorabilia: This can be a container for each child or a jointly used container.  It needs to be easily accessible so these items don’t build up in other places before being put away.
  • Files for students:  Kids need a place to put paper too.  These papers can include graded tests and homework, notes from previous units and any other paper they need to reference, but not carry around.
