Here’s How to Organize Parts and Manuals for Kid-Related Items

Kids, especially babies, bring a high volume of things into your home.  Clothes, toys, pieces and papers flow in.  Without an organized system for collecting, processing, storing and purging these items your home quickly becomes cluttered.  Today we focus on an organized strategy and system for managing manuals and parts associated with baby gear and kid-related appliances and equipment.

Here’s what you do:

  • Collect all of your manuals, spare parts and/or unused pieces.  These may be things like carseat information and pieces, crib assembly instructions or toy and equipment manuals.
  • Sort and store these items into plastic bags.  Gallon sized Ziplocs work well for this purpose.
  • Label your bags.
  • File your bags in a bin or box.
  • If you have a lot of bags, consider creating dividers with construction paper or file folders to separate your bagged information into categories like: bedroom, playroom, car and outside toys.
  • Store the container of bagged information in an accessible place, like the child’s closet.
  • Develop a routine for removing a bag when you pass on, sell or no longer own the item.  Also create a routine for bagging and filing newly acquired things.

This particular system is well-suited to kid-related items.  It can also be adapted to organize and reference information and parts to other things in your home or garage.
