Labeling Love

We at Simply Placed love our labelers. They are a wonderful tool to help in the organization process, allowing clear identification of things and spaces so that our clients can have an easier time staying organized after we leave. I’ve been working with some business clients this month who are in the process of closing out 2010 and setting up their offices and work goals for a productive 2011. Here a few ways a labeler has come in handy in this regard:

Archiving past year’s records. Boxing up files and labeling them according to the company’s storage and retention schedule (both the date of the records and the date they should be moved, destroyed, etc. (ie: 2010 supply orders, move to warehouse 12/31/11, shred 12/31/13)

Labeling new files for the year. Files labeled with a labeler display a neat, professional, consistent look.

Labeling CD’s or Thumb Drives containing backed-up electronic files, clearly indexing the contents.

Reorganizing and labeling shelves holding shared supplies so that everyone could find things easier.

Labeling individual employee’s personal supplies (stapler, etc.) so that if someone borrowed it they would know to whom it should be returned.

Upgrading electronics or using new gadgets in the New Year? Label the charger with the name of the device, so you know what goes with what. Label the cord at the power source.

If you are trying to organize your office for a productive 2011, try a few of these ideas and see if it isn’t easier to find what you need when you need it, saving you time all year long. Labelers are easy to find and come with a variety of features and price points. You can see some great examples at www.Dymo.com. Let us know if you have questions or need help picking the right tool for your situation. We’d be happy to help!
