The Power of Routines in Your Life and Work

Daily routines

We often talk about the power of routines in our daily work and lives.

Working smarter, not harder, by creating productive healthy habits, routines, or rituals in your day can eliminate stress, increase productivity and help you reach your goals.

Routines help you stay focused so you can get more done in less time.  A good routine guides you from one step to the next so you get where you need to go in the most effective way possible.  You don’t waste time skipping steps and having to go back or waste time trying to figure out what you should do next.

A routine focuses your time and energy so you can move effectively through your day.  Reducing stress and anxiety and increasing productivity and effectiveness are key reasons to adopt organized routines.

The wonderful thing about routines is that you can take them with you wherever you are. No matter where you are – your home, your office, or even traveling, you can count on the predictability of routines to help you stay productive.

When you have a routine that you can fall back on every day, it brings consistency to your life. When was the last time you consciously had to think about brushing your teeth in the morning or before you go to sleep at night? It’s just a habit, right? Something you’ve been doing for so long that it is a ritual.

Productive Habits = Results

This same philosophy can be applied to achieving results at work. If you create a habit, ritual or routine related to your goal, or stack a new habit upon an existing one that you do ritualistically, your chances of success grow exponentially. Routines can be stacked habits that put together intentionally and consistently help you achieve a desired state or outcome.

Set small goals to complete every day until they become productive, healthy habits. Soon these small tasks or goals will be second nature for you.

Now that fall is in the air, it may be time to add or adjust your routines. If you need to transition from a more relaxed summer schedule back into a more structured fall routine, the best way to do this is gradually, if you can.
