Tips For How To Keep An Organized Car

How often do you get into your car and wish it could be more organized?

Whether you just use your car for transporting people or things from one place to another, or if it is an extension of your office, you’ll feel less stressed if it is organized and tidy.

Recently, I took a 5-day road trip to Idaho. I was amazed by how much I needed to fit into the car for a drive like that! Having the items we needed to access during the drive organized and handy was definitely important during those 1,000 miles on the road. A stress-free drive helped me to relax during the trip so I could feel more recharged and productive when I returned home.

We hope the following tips will help as you plan your summer family car trips and also with your day-to-day driving needs.

Tips for How to Keep an Organized Car

We all have a variety of supplies and items we like to keep in our cars. In my car, I like to keep healthy snacks, bottled water, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, gloves and charging cords for mobile devices. If you have small kids, you’ll also want items to keep them entertained such as paper, crayons and pens, plus wet wipes, plastic bags and first aid supplies. However, when those things begin to sprawl throughout the car, they become hard to find, inaccessible when needed and make the car look messy. Fortunately, there are a variety of solutions that will help!

Fabric utility totes offer a variety of compartments to contain and separate various items, keeping them organized and easy to find. Some styles have handles so that the tote can be easily moved when passengers need seating space. These totes can be found online, in various fabric colors and styles, and can range in price from $12 – $30, or higher.

It is also a great idea to keep a small car trash bin, lined with a produce bag. Each time you get gas, as you wait for your tank to fill, use the time to empty your garbage. Combining simple tasks like this is an easy way to create a new habit!

Finally, create a space in your car to store items such as things you need to return, donations, etc. A collapsable trunk-style organizer is great for things you need to keep in the car but don’t need to access as frequently.

The following video will also walk you through some simple steps that you can take to get or stay organized in your car.
