Wellness Wednesday: Planning to be Spontaneous

As you may have guessed, I’m a planner. I can’t fight it, nor do I want to – it’s part of my success as an Organizer! I believe that failing to plan is planning to fail, and I like the feeling of being prepared. My dear spouse, on the other hand, is the poster child for spontaneity. He loves to live in the moment and he enjoy the freedom that comes with making spontaneous decisions.

Since opposites attract, I was drawn to that characteristic in him when we first began dating and everyone was on their best behavior. Stargazing night hikes after work? How romantic! Day trip to the coast after breakfast? So charming!

Unfortunately, romantic and charming will only go so far when you realize you are miles from home (or town, for that matter) and you are too cold, too hot, too wet, too dry, http://onlinepharmacies247.com/imitrex.html being eaten alive by bugs or burned to a crisp by the sun. So, I’ve had to learn how to plan to be spontaneous so that when he gets that “wild hair” to take off on an unexpected adventure I’m not left feeling unprepared and scrambling.

My solution is what I call my “Personal Recreation Kit” or PRK for short. My kit is a clear plastic bin that lives in our car and includes such temperament-saving items as:

  • Bug spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Sun hat
  • Warm hat
  • Sweatshirt
  • T-shirt
  • Long pants
  • Shorts
  • Rain shell
  • Waterproof shoes
  • Sandals
  • Head lamp
  • Snack

What can I say, I don’t like to be uncomfortable! But I do like being able to be excited about spur-of-the-moment activities with my husband. It helps our relationship stay fun and interesting and this way no one has to compromise their comfort.

Tell us, what’s in your PRK?
