3 Places to Find Green Ways to Dispose of Waste

Earth Day is a reminder that we all share the responsibility of caring for our planet.  Decisions you make about where and how to dispose of your unwanted items and waste are an important part of taking care of our planet.  Here are 3 places to find out where and how to greenly get rid of things.

  1. County government – Most counties have a solid waste department.  Look at your county’s website for information for transfer stations, recycling stations and guidelines for disposing of hazardous waste.  Many counties organize recycling and hazardous waste events.
  2. City government – If your city provides solid waste and recycling services, check the website for guidelines for what to trash, compost and recycle as well as schedules for pick up and locations for drop off.  Many cities also offer events during the year for disposing of large items, paper shredding, prescription drug disposal and recycling of items not typically picked up at the curbside.
  3. Waste removal companies – If you contract with a company on your own or through your home owner’s association or if your city works with a particular vendor, check out the website for details about what you can dispose of and recycle and special programs they might have for the pick up and recycling or disposal of CFL bulbs, batteries, electronics or other items.

Do your part to help care for the Earth by responsibly discarding and recycling unwanted items.
