Storage Units Are a Costly Solution

Do you have a self storage unit?

There are many reasons why a rented storage unit makes sense.  If you have large seasonal items like holiday decorations or sporting goods that are only used annually, or family heirlooms which need to be saved but aren’t currently on display, then a storage unit is a good option when there is no room at home.  If you are moving homes or remodeling, temporary storage is another common need.

Beware, however, if your rented storage unit is becoming a dumping ground.

Did you know Americans spend $24 BILLION a year on self storage rental? And according to the Self Storage Association website: in the U.S. there is enough square footage in storage units for every man woman and child in the U.S. (that’s 360 million people) to stand inside them!

Storage units are also a drain on your budget, deducting hundreds of dollars from your account every month, year after year.

How much money are you paying to store things?

Is it worth it?

What else could you do with that money?

Make a commitment to look through your storage unit with critical eyes and determine what really needs to be kept and what you can let go of. Maybe you can downsize to a smaller unit, thereby saving some money.
Closing out your unit completely may require a “domino effect.”   Your items from the storage unit could live in the garage, if some garage items lived in the house,  if some items in the house were purged a bit in order to make room.  But closing the storage unit will save you money, time, and likely the emotional and/or intellectual drain of managing that offsite location.

Contact the Professional Organizers at Simply Placed if you would like help looking through your storage unit, making decisions about what to keep, finding the best way to store those items, and to reach your goals for storage versus space.
