Increase Your Productivity by 20% by Scheduling Your To-Dos

Assigning a task to a specific day increases your chances of getting it done.  With a to-do list only, you have a 40 to 50 percent chance of doing the task.  Scheduling the task (date and time) increases your chances of completing it by 70% or so.

~ Judith Kohlberg

What if you could increase your productivity today by 20%?  Would this result in less stress, more free time or more money for you or your business?  Make some time today to plan and schedule things on your to-list.

Here’s how:

  • Consolidate your to-do list.  Collect your tasks from scraps of paper or calendar notes and download your brain onto either an electronic or hardcopy to-do list.
  • Review you list.  Is everything that’s on there still applicable?  Based on your goals and priorities, do the things on your list make sense for you to do?  Would it be more effective to say no to some tasks or delegate them?
  • Prioritize your list.  Once you’re sure what’s on your list makes sense and supports you in achieving your goals, organize them in terms of priority.
  • Schedule your tasks.  Open up your calendar and schedule the time you need to get things done.
  • Honor your schedule.  Respect the appointment you’ve made with yourself to work on your tasks.  If something comes up and you can’t get to your scheduled to-do, reschedule it.  If you find that you’ve rescheduled the task more than once, re-evaluate to make sure it is truly something that you should do and that is important.
